Founded in 1949A history built alongside Japan’s baby and children’s clothing
Kobayashi Meriyasu Co., Ltd. was established post-war in 1949 at the foot of the Southern Alps in Yamanashi. During times when supplies were scarce, we began our journeyn by knitting sweaters for local children using surplus yarn from our family’s silk-reeling business.
For more than 70 years since, we have dedicated ourselves to baby and children’s clothing, continuously refining our craftsmanship while catering to the needs of our clients. Today, we proudly continue this tradition of providing safe and reliable clothing.
Our Commitment to “Made in Japan”From knitting to sewing, all in one factory
In Japan today, domestically produced textile products account for just 2%, with knitwear at less than 1%. However, we have been committed to “Made in Japan” since day one. All processes—from knitting to sewing—are carried out in our own factory by local staff from the Minami-Alps City and surrounding areas.
We use natural spring water sourced from the Minami-Alps for washing. The soft waterbrings a gentle finish to every piece of baby and children’s clothing that we make.

Baby and children’s clothing in Japan is subject to some of the world’s strictest safety requirements, including regulations on formaldehyde content and accident-prevention standards for decorations. Drawing on decades of experience, we have established a production system fully compliant with these standards. Our factory is equipped with a clean room to minimize formaldehyde exposure. With advanced sewing techniques, we ensure a smooth finish around necklines and sleeves, and we offer size variations in 5 cm increments.
Our original brand is certified under the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), the world’s leading benchmark for organic textiles.

From the very beginning, we have specialized exclusively in children’s clothing. Our technical expertise in fine knitting and sewing, combined with a deep knowledge of strict quality standards, has earned us the trust of many leading manufacturers. As a result, we are widely recognized as a reliable partner for baby clothing.
Many of the contract-manufactured samples we have produced are carefully preserved in our warehouse. This archive, which reflects the history of children’s apparel in post-war Japan, is one of our most valuable assets.

Our Original Brand “cofucu”
Produced with the support of obstetricians: Organic cotton babywear that is comfortable and practical
It all began with a request from an obstetrics and gynecology clinic in Yamanashi Prefecture. Their request for original baby hospital wear was so well received that we launched our original brand “cofucu” in 2014.
- A baby’s very first clothing should be made from certified organic cotton.
- Designed with the input of obstetricians, our focus is on comfort and usability.
Through ongoing refinement, this philosophy has shaped a product line that is now chosen by many maternity hospitals and valued as a gift for newborns.
Cofucu embodies both our long-cultivated craftsmanship and our passion for creating clothing with care.

Organic cotton first wear and custom newborn gifts
Our work with maternity hospitals provided the foundation for launching cofucu. Since then, we have continued to supply hospitals not only in Yamanashi but across Japan with newborn essentials such as first innerwear and customized newborn gifts.
